an important development for Canada's most comprehensive listing of real estate properties," says XXX. "The Multiple Listing Service® is exactly the sort of information resource that is best disseminated on
the Internet."
"We're using the virtual community to show properties in the real community," says Gary Schnarr, president of The Canadian Real Estate Association, which is sponsoring the

Backgrounder on the MLS® Internet project
On September XX, an experimental three-month project will put listings for nearly 15,000 homes on the Internet.
Home buyers will be able to see pictures of homes and will be able to read
a description that includes general location, price and the name of the listing agent. The project eventually will be expanded to include all of Canada, but the four initial test markets are Calgary, Halifax, Barrie,
Ont. and Oakville, Ont.
The listings will be similar to newspaper ads for properties currently found under the Multiple Listing Service (MLS)®. The listings can be found on the World Wide Web either at
http://crea.ca/crea.htm or on the home pages of individual boards. These addresses are:
Oakvile, Milton & District Real Estate Board
Each of these four pages includes a button marked "For Sale" that leads to the MLS® listings. Users can then search by neighborhood by
clicking on a map, or they can use pop-up windows to search by such criteria as price range, area and number of bedrooms or bathrooms.
Each of the Web pages includes:
photographs of the properties for sale;
descriptions of each property, including size, approximate location and other information;
e-mail address and phone number of the listing agent for each property;
statistical information about local MLS® sales;
a directory of the local real estate board;
information about living conditions in the city sponsoring the Web page;
links to relevant local home pages put up by other organizations; and
links to other real estate boards and to The Canadian Real Estate Association.
