Promotional letter for a children's magazine

Promotional letter for a children's magazine

Dear

Imagine getting your message in front of tomorrow's best and brightest.

The next generation of your readership is now moving through school, and some of the best of them will be reading The Spotted Blowfish. Designed as a children's companion to the successful literary magazine Possibilities, The Spotted Blowfish will feature top-notch writing by children from around the world--everything from Japanese haiku to science fiction, from Urdu ghazals to mysteries.

For a limited time, we can offer you a chance to get your name in front of tomorrow's buyers and today's parents by advertising in The Spotted Blowfish. We are already arranging distribution through schools across Canada, and are working on taking the magazine around the world. The Spotted Blowfish will also be on the Internet.

Each quarterly issue will feature stories, poems and artwork by elementary and high school students. Other articles will talk about issues of interest to young writers, will expose readers to other cultures or will offer creative tips from adult professionals. A request for material is circulating throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Africa, Australia and Japan. (Take a look at the enclosed profile for more information).

Remember, because ads in The Spotted Blowfish are treated as sponsorships, they are tax deductible. And some of the profits from The Spotted Blowfish will go to a trust fund for children.

As you can see from the attached list, a sponsorship of as little as $100 will get a business-card sized ad, a mention in all promotional materials and a listing on the magazine's special sponsor page. (Take a look at the enclosed information on sponsorship opportunities.)

The Spotted Blowfish is an opportunity you can't afford to pass up. Call me today at (613) 233-2669. And if we hear from you before April 15, we'll bump you up one sponsorship category. So if you buy an ad worth between $500 and $1,500 before April 15, we'll give you an ad worth between $2,000 and $5,000.

Call today!

Sincerely,

Maureen Henry

The Spotted Blowfish - Profile

The Spotted Blowfish is a magazine of children's writing and art. Its aim is to inspire children to write, draw and paint creatively, and to explore literature in all its forms, from dub poetry to Japanese haiku, Urdu ghazals, Cree legends, European folktales, science fiction, mystery and short stories by writers from all cultural backgrounds.

The Spotted Blowfish will allow Canadian children to share their work with young readers across Canada and from as far away as Jamaica, Ghana, Australia and South Africa. As the magazine develops and expands its market, we hope that it will provide a meeting-place for children's writing from all over the world.

More importantly, this colourful, lively magazine will provide young writers and illustrators with a forum where they can practice and develop their skills, share ideas and traditions, and learn from professional adult writers, editors and illustrators. We will also publish stories on issues such as censorship, advertising and propaganda. Special activities and contests will reinforce the themes raised in our feature articles, and will hone children's skills, increase their vocabulary and improve their spelling and grammar.

Articles from adults will show children different forms of writing, such as poetry, screenwriting and songwriting. They will also show children how writers actually make their livings, and will discuss such topics as publishing, illustrations and computers.

There are many goals for The Spotted Blowfish, but above all we want to encourage children to dream of a creative future, while giving them whatever tools they need to make their dreams come true.
